My Journal 6

I used my key words to find two new pieces of research that support the claims Microsoft continually producing advanced technological productions to attract consumers and Microsoft Corporation constantly adapt for business model innovation. I used “Google scholar” to find two new information from the internet. The first source talks about one new application software Web 2.0 that was made and published by Microsoft in 2007. It is a good example production for the next generation of software. That can bring many advantages to consumers and it is a process that Microsoft will change their business. They will let the software as a service in the next few years. New productions could have advanced functions and advantages for consumers. The second source is an article talks about how a company adapt for business model innovation. This article talks that innovation is very important for a company. Leader should improve the skills of innovations. Innovations can bring chances and changes for a company. Sometimes, a good innovation can save a company when this company will breakup. Therefore, innovation is so important and helpful for a successful company.

Questions: How can I combine these two sources in my paper?

What are disadvantages of innovations?

By researching two resources, John C. Dvorak used his experience to give me his opinion about Microsoft’s new business model that is reducing prices of all software. Microsoft endless improvements Microsoft Office software and produce new cheaper or free software to consumer. Combine the information from the other website, Linux is one of new products of Microsoft Company. Linux is just as good as Windows and it is free and convenience. So, it can adjust the software market and can be accepted by most consumers. In the future, Microsoft Company will develop cheaper and free service for consumers because almost nobody wants to spend much money buying software that they just can use more or less 60% function. These two resources gave me a lot of evidence. These two resources provided to me some data such as pictures, charts, and numbers. I can subjectively find out and understand the difference between older business model and new one of Microsoft Company. In my opinion, the claim these two resources are supporting is Microsoft is producing more cheap and advanced software to consumers. They want to let consumers can spend less money buying good items. Therefore, they can lead the software market whole the world. They can adjust what they should produce, what is consumers need, and what price consumers can accept.

Quoting: That is taking and using the actual words or sentences form one article and citing author.

Paraphrasing: It is taking quotation from an author and using our own words, but it should cite original article.

Summarizing: It is using our own words to indicate author’s main idea and it is shorter than original article.

                                                                 Microsoft

My topic is Microsoft Corporation’s advanced business model and particular conception. In order to find out more useful and interesting information, I researched many resources from different places. In term of Microsoft's need to change its business model, chief software architect Ray Ozzie said:"It is clear that if we fail to do so, our business as we know it is at risk. We must respond quickly and decisively." I found an article from Google research, that is John C. Dvorak’s article. John C. Dvorak is an American columnist and broadcaster in the areas of technology and computing. Therefore, I think his idea can help me a lot. By this research, I knew the new Microsoft Corporation’s new business model that is reducing the price of office software. John thinks “the age of expensive office software may be near its end”. He uses some economic pictures and charts to analyses why Microsoft should reduce the price of software, and that he tells us what is his opinion for reducing price. According to his article “With the advent of the small, inexpensive computer and the Netbooks that sell for around $299, the appeal of Linux becomes greater and greater because it costs nothing. Right now, for example, I can get a complete Intel /quotes/comstock/15*!intc/quotes/nls/intc (INTC 20.43, +0.37, +1.84%) motherboard with an Atom processor, ready to install in a box, for about $100. All I need is a $30 memory module; an inexpensive hard disk ($50) and a case/power supply ($75). For $255, I can have a pretty nice cheap machine. Now I have to add the most basic version of Windows for $199? And Office for another $399 (standard no-frills edition)?” He compares the difference between different prices. Therefore, he explains the price should be reduced. The other reason of reducing the price is users just can use the 10% functions of software. Therefore, they don’t want to spend much more money buying genuine software for their computers. The second source is from Microsoft official website, it says many new products and services that Microsoft will produce such as such as via the internet, internet-based advertising and FrontPage and so on. So, I think I can find some new information from this website.

My Journal 3

From the reading research questions and thesis statements, audience, and purpose; I learned the research questions is neither too broad nor too narrow. I can argument or support my question that means I should have my own opinion, and I should be interested in it. The thesis statement is the summary about what I want to talk about my entire paper. I can connect the first paragraph and body paragraphs. Therefore, it is very important in the paper. The audience is people who you want to let them read and hear your opinion what you researched. Purpose is the reason that you wrote and researched your topic.

My research question: The business model and next generation of Microsoft.

Thesis statement: I did my search and found Microsoft company is the best computer soft company because it has advanced business model and a good plan about next generation.

The audience: People who are interested in business and want to know something about Microsoft.

Purpose: I want to find more information about Microsoft's business model and future plan.

The first source: In this website, I can’t find the author of the article. This website talks about the office online. It is the official website; therefore, I think this website is experts in the field.
The second source: The author is John C. Dvorak. He is John C. Dvorak is an American columnist and broadcaster in the areas of technology and computing. I think he is experts in the field because he is he was a mainstay of a variety of magazines and he is Vice-President of Mevio and well known for his work for Tech TV.
