Week 12 journal

I have learned lots of information about Microsoft Corporation. First, I have learned the history of Microsoft’s business model can be divided 3 periods of 35 years. Second, I have learned Microsoft’s innovation culture. What is Microsoft’s innovation culture, and why Microsoft can keep innovation during development. What are Microsoft’s five challenges now. Finally, I have known Microsoft’s low price strategy in the world. I have learned the reason of Microsoft reduced products’ price in China.

I want to tell readers Microsoft’s future business plans. Microsoft wants to invest many cost and resources into the search market in the five years. Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer said on the 17th, June, 2009, the next five years, Microsoft plans to invest 5-10 percent of operating income into the search market.

My week 11 journal

I want to include my podcast in the end part of the webtext, that is “Price strategy in China”. I want to add podcast in the behind of this part because the podcast can explain details about this point and audience can easy to understand information. I want to include my slideshow into the “Microsoft’s innovation” part of my webtext. I talks Microsoft have many internal and external challenges in the first paragraph in this part; therefore, I think I can use my slideshow to inform and explain my ideas about this point. I think my thesis, audience are still relevant to my webtext, even though I add my podcast and slideshow into my webtext. Purpose was changed. Thesis was not changed because my main idea was not changed; and then I just add podcast and slideshow to explain my branches point of my maid ideas. My audience is still non-specialists, (undergraduate students they are studying business or computer), because my main idea and topic did not change. My new purpose is let audience know what is Microsoft Corporation’s advanced business model, what is the price strategy in China and Microsoft’s innovation culture, and that let audience know more information about Microsoft’ competitions.

Journal 9

My topic for my slideshow is challenges Microsoft faces today. I want to talk about five challenges from others companies and internal of Microsoft company. The first challenge is from Apple Company. Although many people thought that Apple's Mac OS X would not become mainstream, but when Vista was defeated Apple's won a lot of market share. The second challenge is to ensure that the current momentum of Windows 7. Even though Vista was a bad operating system for many customers in last two years, Window 7 was accepted by almost all customers. The third is open source. From the Ubuntu operating system to the Firefox browser, these communities provide a lot of very useful and free choice to computer uses; they developed a direct threat to Microsoft. The forth is Google. Google is developing faster and faster. The fifth is tree attracts the wind. It means Microsoft is the No 1 in computer software system market; many competitors want to defeat Microsoft Company. Therefore, those companies can try to seize Microsoft’s status.

I think I can put this slideshow into the part that is innovation of Microsoft in my webtext because I talk that the reason of Microsoft keep innovation is challenges from internal and external of Microsoft.

These images can let audience be easy to understand my maid ideas, and audience can find sources from internet

Journal

My topic is the innovation culture of Microsoft Corporation. Because of its advanced innovation culture and low price strategy, Microsoft, the biggest software company in the world, has to be successful to stay ahead in the business by producing new application and operating systems. The first part, because of innovation, Microsoft can become the leader of software market. Innovation is very important for a company. Microsoft developed 35 years they continually keep a main idea that is innovation. Innovation lets Microsoft defeat all competitors and develop faster and faster. Therefore, innovation became culture for Microsoft Corporation. From the development of Windows operating system, we can easily aware of the pace of Microsoft’s innovation, and that we cannot be difficult to feel that the innovation culture is core values of Microsoft Corporation. Microsoft can continue to develop innovation, because of the passionate high-quality staff. I will talk about the detail about this part.

The second part, Last year Microsoft changed business model that is reducing prices of all software and adjust the market demand. Some others computer companies use lower price to attract consumer; therefore, he explains the price should be reduced (John, 1999, P1). The other reason of reducing the price is users just can use the 10% functions of software (John, 1999, P2). Therefore, they don’t want to spend much more money buying genuine software for their computers. Microsoft is producing more cheap and advanced software to consumers. They want to let consumers can spend less money buying good items.

The difference between “ text” is I will use different reference and I will add more pictures and more facts form internet or books.

I will use lots of evidence and facts to inform and explain my opinion for my audience. I will also use many credible examples and pictures that can be accpeted from internet. And that I will practice my voice, tone, and I will add my emotion into my podcast.

My journal 7

I did a short conference with my English instructor who is Rebecca. She told me a few mistakes about my 1000-1250 words webtext. The first problem, the quotation needs add the date after author’s name in the first paragraph. The second problem, some words need be capitals, such as Word, Excels, and Power Point. The third, the font and size of words in the entire should stay the same. The fourth problem is a mistake about recommended reading. I should write the title of the text and link the website for the title. The last problem, I should follow rules of APA format in the reference part of my paper. These are problems about my paper above.

By reading my partner’s peer review, I knew and found many problems of my paper. She thought I had a good thesis, but I still should focus more on my thesis and topic in my body paragraph. She thought my citations were confusing and ineffective. She didn’t like recommending reading of my webtext. She advised me to change the distracting background and to correct grammatical errors.

I think I should improve my webtext paper. Firstly, I should fix my mistakes from conference. I should revision those parts what I should rewrite one by one. I should add date for quotations, should link the website for the title in recommending reading and follow APA format in reference. Secondly, I should fix my mistakes of contents. I must follow my thesis and topics in my body paragraph. I need try to find new sources and citations from internet. I will revise my recommending reading part in the next paper. I will go to writing center and try to fix my grammatical errors. I think I have a lot of works should be done in the next new paper; therefore, I should take care and work hard.

My Journal 6

I used my key words to find two new pieces of research that support the claims Microsoft continually producing advanced technological productions to attract consumers and Microsoft Corporation constantly adapt for business model innovation. I used “Google scholar” to find two new information from the internet. The first source talks about one new application software Web 2.0 that was made and published by Microsoft in 2007. It is a good example production for the next generation of software. That can bring many advantages to consumers and it is a process that Microsoft will change their business. They will let the software as a service in the next few years. New productions could have advanced functions and advantages for consumers. The second source is an article talks about how a company adapt for business model innovation. This article talks that innovation is very important for a company. Leader should improve the skills of innovations. Innovations can bring chances and changes for a company. Sometimes, a good innovation can save a company when this company will breakup. Therefore, innovation is so important and helpful for a successful company.

Questions: How can I combine these two sources in my paper?

What are disadvantages of innovations?
